Catching Up

I recently spent a week catching up with old friends. It started off on a sad note because an old high school friend of mine passed away. I couldn't believe it when I heard the news. We had lost touch, but thinking back to the fun times we had, it feels like yesterday. You're never prepared for news like that, and even though we hadn't seen each other in years, I was very sad to know that in this life, we would never get to catch up with each other, as I always assumed we would do. While searching through old pictures, I couldn't believe the date stamp on the most recent one I had of him; it was from almost exactly 10 years ago. It's hard to believe that I'm old enough to have been friends with someone and then lost touch with them for that long. I'm hoping his passing will motivate me to do a better job of keeping in touch with my friends. Life's too short.

The events of the rest of that week were fitting, since I got together with a few other old friends who I hadn't seen in years.  One of my college roommates came to town and we had a pool play date with all of our kids.  The kids outnumbered the four of us by three!  I am impressed by mothers of more than one child... I'm NOT ready for that! Then some friends of ours were in town from Alaska and we got to meet their new addition for the first time; she is now 1. And they got to meet Nolan.
Joe with Nolan and Brent with Sabrina - two good daddies!
We spent the next weekend celebrating the 4th with friends and family:
